Unusual Cool Gadgets

Just because you’re working doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to have a little fun. From back-up cameras to portable toilets, trucking gadgets of all shapes, sizes, and uses have been developed to help keep drivers safe and efficient on the road—but what about fun?  With these gadgets you’ll be ready to do everything from making lunch to having a movie night in your cab.

  1. RoadPro 12 Volt Sandwich Maker

This cigarette lighter powered sandwich maker was featured on Gadgetzer.com in February. Whether you’re making toast for your breakfast-craving co-driver, hosting a luncheon featuring piping hot grinders, or just have a hankering for grilled cheese, this gadget can produce lots of fun and lots of high-carb snack for you on the road.

  1. USB powered Air Conditioned Shirt

You can plug it into your nearest USB port, run in on AA batteries, or power it via the cigarette-lighter, this shirt with fans built in might look a little silly, but it’s a great backup in case the air conditioner suddenly fails. With two fans in the back, the shirt takes in air and cools it. You can even control the fan speed! Read more about the shirt on gizmodo.com

  1. Siemens SL56 cell phone.

According to truckflix.com, this cell phone is one of the coolest for truckers. Pairing a compact design with a full set of features, the phone is small, and a slide out keyboard protects calls from being made within the pocket. A built in speakerphone, ATT service, and camera make it more than just a phone. Editors of CNET.com gave the phone an 8/10 rating, and users rated it at just above 6/10.

  1. Talking Road Whiz by Ultradata Systems

This little hand held might be more convenient than your cell phone GPS. Super small and super knowledgeable, the Road Whiz will direct you to certain brands of gas, restaurants, hotels, and more services along the interstate. According to expeditersonline.com, the gadget will direct drivers to over 80,000 services, and unlike the cell phone, the tool gives voice directions, so no more looking down when driving. 1. The Slingbox Solo

This nifty device allows people on the go to stream live television wherever they have a broadband internet connection. Though an internet connection is needed both at home and in the location where you want to use the Slingbox, for those who have it, this is a pretty neat way to be able to watch tons of free TV. The gadget hooks to the back of your cable or satellite device and Laptop or PDA. With the solo, you can now watch your favorite television shows in high definition, if you have a high definition cable or satellite device at home.

Some might be a little wacky, but these devices are all about having the comforts of home, or more than the comforts of home, wherever you go. With a couple of these in your cab you’ll be sure to be entertained, but you might need to turn them off the insure you get some work done!

I have tried the sandwich maker by Roadpro and it is awesome! They have some other really cool gadgets too. I am having trouble visualizing the shirt, so I guess I’ll have to take a closer look. Thanks!

Hey Mary, I too have the sandwich maker from 12Volt-Travel. I have also picked up one of their 12 volt televisions to watch while I’m out on the road. My wife travels along with me (sometimes) and she does like the idea of soap operas rather than white lines on the road. The Online Truck Stop has tons of supplies for truckers, it’s like your common truck stop but on steroids and online.
